ASTM A135 Electric resistance welded steel pipe

Introduction

ASTM A135 Electric resistance welded steel pipe is intended for conveying gas, vapor, water or other liquid. Only grade A is adapted for flanging and bending. ASTM A135 Gr.A ERW pipe may be furnished either non expanded or cold expanded at the option of the manufacturer. When pipe is cold expanded, the amount of expansion shall not exceed 1.5% of the outside diameter pipe size. 

Size: 60.3mm-762.0mm with wall thickness up to 12.7mm

Size: 26.7mm-141.3mm with wall thickness 2.11mm to 3.4mm

ASTM A135 ERW pipe is manufactured from flat rolled steel in individual lengths or in continuous length by electric-resistance or electric-induction welding without the addition of extraneous material.

Hydrostatic test

Each length of pipe shall be hydrostatically tested at the mill, without leakage through the wall. Plain end pipe may be tested at the discretion of the manufacturer in single lengths or in multiple lengths. The hydrostatic pressure shall be maintained for not less than 5 s.

Lengths of the ASTM A135 ERW tube

Schedule 10 pipe as per ASME B36.10 shall between 4.9-6.7m for a minimum of 90% of the footage furnished, with any balance being shorter lengths at least 2.4m long. Others shall be furnished in lengths averaging 11.6m or over, with a minimum length of 6.1m, but no more than 5% may be under 9.8m.

Surface and coating

The finished pipe shall be as circular as possible and visually straight. The wall thickness of tubes are uniform. The tube ends shall be cut perpendicular to the tube axis and shall be free from burr.If the buyer requires, the ERW pipe will be thoroughly cleaned of all dirt, oil, grease, loose scale, and rust; then dried, and given a protective coating of the kind and in the manner specified by the purchaser.
