Process of ASTM A106 standard steel pipe
For pipes in 48.3mm and under shall be furnished hot rolled or cold drawn. For pipes in 60.3mm and over shall be supplied hot finished only, unless otherwise specified. Cold drawn pipe shall be heat treated after the final cold draw pass at a temperature of 650℃ or higher. Hot finished pipes need not be heat treated. When hot finished pipe is heat treated, it shall be heat treat at temperature of 650℃ or higher.

Permissible variations in wall thickness
The minimum wall thickness at any point shall not more than 12.5% under the specified wall thickness.
Permissible tolerance on weight
The actual weight per unit length of pipe shall not vary more than 10% over and 3.5% under that in the theoretical weight.
Permissible tolerance in length
Exact length | in accordance with agreement. |
Single random length | 4.8-6.7m per length covers 95% of the delivered quantity, 3.7-4.8m covers 5% of that. |
Double random length | 95% of the delivered quantity has a minimum average of 10.7m length and a minimum length 6.7m, 5% of that is 4.8-6.7m. |
Hydrostatic test
Each length of pipe shall be subject to the hydrostatic test without leakage through the pipe wall. Given by the formula,
