PE is Polyethylene.
Storage and handling
Storage
When polyethylene coated pipe is arranged in multiple tiers without spacing strips, the maximum allowable number of tiers shall be limited within the specified number for uncoated pipe having the same grade and sizes.
A rubber sheet should be inserted between pipe and dunnage to prevent damage to the coating film from hard protrusions.
Handling
In loading and unloading operations, caution should be exercised to prevent damage to the coating through contact with sharp projections of cranes, forklifts, etc.
For lifting operations, it is recommended that wide slings made of nylon or other appropriate materials be used.
When a hook is used for handling of large diameter pipes, it should have sufficient width and depth to fit the inside of pipe, and be covered with rubber.
Pipe laying
In pipe laying, care must be taken that the coating is not damaged by sharp rocks, or other hard substances.
Repair of damaged coating
It is recommended that damaged coating be repaired as described on page.
Marine transportation
The maximum allowable stacking hight should be decided in accordance with API RP 5LW and the calcuration based on maximum permissible load of polyethylene coated film. WANLEI can recommend the actual figure.
Repairing method
Typical examples of repairing methods of surface defects of polyethylene coating which may occur transportation of the polyethylene coated pipe are shown in the following table.
