ASTM A672 Electric Fusion Welded Steel Pipe

Electric fusion welded steel pipe in ASTM A672 standard is suitable for high pressure service at moderate temperatures. This specification covers pipe 400mm in outside diameter or larger with wall thickness up to 75mm.

Production process

Electric fusion welded steel pipe is manufactured from pressure vessel quality plate and filled with metal added. The welds shall be made either manually or automatically by electric process involving the deposition of filler metal. The joints shall be double welded, full-penetration welds. The welded joint has positive reinforcement at the center of each side of the weld, but not more than 3.2mm. We will remove the reinforcement else as per client’s requested.

Allowable tolerance in outside diameter

Outside diameter based on circumferential measurement +/-0.5% of the specified. Difference between major and minor outside diameters is 1%.

Allowable tolerance in wall thickness

The minimum wall thickness at any point in the pipe shall not more than 0.3mm under the specified nominal thickness.

Allowable tolerance on lengths

Lengths with unmachined ends shall be within 0-13mm of that specified. Lengths with machined ends shall be as agree upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
