JIS G3460 Steel Pipes For Low Temperature Service

JIS G3460 standard specifies the steel pipes used for piping at extremely low temperatures of freezing point or under. The pipes shall be manufactured from fine-grained killed steel. Pipes of STPL380 shall be seamless or electric resistance welded, and those of STPL450 and STPL690 shall be seamless. When pipes are manufactured by electric resistance welding, the weld beads on inter and external surfaces shall be removed to smooth the surface along the contour of the pipe, unless otherwise specified. However, if removing inter weld beads is difficult, the pipe may be supplied as welded.

Heat treatment of JIS G3460 steel pipes for low temperature service

Pipes shall be heat treated as follows, other heat treatment may be applied upon agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Cold finished pipes shall be heat treat after the cold finishing.

STPL380 and STPL450: normalizing, normalizing followed by tempering, or quenching followed by tempering.

STPL690: normalizing twice followed by tempering, or quenching followed by tempering.

Pipe ends of JIS G3460 steel pipes for low temperature service

Pipes shall be furnished with plain ends or bevel ends in accordance with agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

Notes: a)The pipe shall contain an acid soluble aluminium of 0.010% or more.
