Flange is a part which connects one tube with another. The ends of each tube are fitted together to become a long pipeline. Flanges must be used in pairs. The two flanges shall be tightly connected with bolts, and the middle between two flanges shall be sealed with gaskets. In addition, flanges are also used at the inlet and outlet of equipment to link two equipment.

ASME/ANSI B16.5 specification covers welding neck flanges, socket welding flanges, threaded flanges, lap joint, blind flanges and slip on welding flanges.

Producing method of ASME ANSI B16.5 carbon alloyed stainless flanges

Forged. The forged process is generally including blanking, heating, forming and cooling after picking out high-quality steel billets. The processing methods have free forging, die forging and mould forging.

Material of ASME ANSI B16.5 flanges

Carbon steel material (ASTM A105, ASTM A350 ASTMA694 etc)

Alloyed steel material ( ASTM A182F1, 16MnR, Cr5Mo,15CrMo ASTM A335 P22, 35CrMoV, 45CrMo etc)

Stainless steel material ( ASTM A182 F304,304L,F316,316L etc)

Stock finish

The most widely used of any gasket finish, because, practically, is suitable for all ordinary service conditions. This is a continuous spiral groove. Flanges sizes 12" and smaller, are produced with a 1/16" round-nosed tool at a feed of 1/32" per revolution. For sizes 14" and large, the finish is made with 1/8" round-nosed tool at a feed of 3/64" per revolution.

Smooth finish

This finish is produced by several shapes of tools cutting at speeds and feeds which leave no definite tool marks apparent to the naked eye.

Raised face and large male and female:

Either a serrated-concentric or serrated-spiral finish having from 24 to 40 grooves per inch is used. The cutting tool employed has an approximate 0.06 in. Or large radius. The resultant surface finish has a 500 microinch appropriate roughness.

Tongue and groove, and small make and female:The gasket contact surface does not exceed 125 microinch roughness.
