JIS G3472 Electric Resistance Welded Carbon Steel For Automobile

JIS G3472 Japanese industrial standard specifies the electric resistance welded carbon steel tubes shall be used for automobiles. This standard is generally applicable to the tubes in the range of 15.9mm to 101.6mm in outside diameter. Tubes are classified into two levels and 11 steel grades. Tubes in Class G is used for general parts of automobiles. Tubes in Class H is used for automobiles parts of which yield strength is particularly required. There are two finishing method, hot finished and cold finished, in this specifcation.

Class G: STAM290GA, STAM290GB, STAM340G, STAM390G, STAM440G, STAM470G, STAM500G,

Class H: STAM440H, STAM470H, STAM500H, STAM540H

Manufactured processing of JIS G3472 standard

A)The tube shall be manufactured from hot rolled or cold rolled steel sheets and strips in coil of killed steel by the combination of the tube manufacturing method and the finishing method.

B)The tube shall be either as manufactured, properly heat treated, or properly heat treated after cold-finished. If specifically required, the purchaser may specify the tube to be delivered as cold-finished.

C)The tube shall be finished with plain ends, unless otherwise specified.

D)The weld beads of external surface shall be removed to smooth external surface along the contour of the tube. The weld beads of internal surface shall be either as welded, flattened or machined.

Appearance of the tubes

A)The tubes shall be straight, and the both ends shall be at right angles to the tube axis for practical purposes.

B)The internal and external surfaces of the tube shall be finished smoothly and free from defects detrimental to use.

C)The external surface of the part where weld bead was removed shall be smooth along the contour of the tube.

D)The tube may be repaired by grinding, machining or other method, provided that the wall thickness of the product after repair shall be within the specified tolerance on wall thickness.

E)The surface of the repaired part shall be smooth along the contour of the tube.
