Introduction

API Spec 5CT specifies the technical delivery conditions for casing, tubing, pup joints, coupling stock, coupling material and accessory material. Three product specification levels: PSL-1, PSL-2, PSL-3. The product furnished to this standard shall be made to a fine grain practice, and the pipe supplied to this specification shall be made by the seamless or electric welded process as listed on the purchase agreement. Couplings and accessory materials are manufactured by the seamless process only. Cold drawn tubular products without duly heat treatment are not acceptable.

Casing and tubing
Casing is a steel tube which supports the well wall to ensure the normal operation during the drilling process and after completion. How many layers of casing for each well depends on the drilling depth and geology.

Tubing is a pipe that transports crude oil and natural gas from the oil and gas reservoir to the ground surface after drilling. It is used to withstand the pressure during the extraction process.

Application

Tubing and casing are indispensable tools in oil exploitation. Once a well has been drilled and becomes a production well, the well must undergo completion.
