Description of casting iron

The casting iron is mainly composed of alloying element such as iron, carbon, silicon, manganese, ect. The carbon content is greater than 2.11%, generally 2.5%~4%, called as ferrocarbon alloy. Sometimes, we add a certain amount of alloy elements to gain iron alloy castings which have better physical and mechanical properties. Before the sixth century BC, the castings began to be used in our country, which is earlier nearly two thousand years than the European countries. Castings is still one of the most important materials in industrial production. The superiority of casting iron

Casting iron has the advantages of both steel and iron. It is safe and reliable with low broken rate, good anti-corrosion and sealing performance, excellent malleability and mechanical properties, easy installation. Castings is widely used for water supply, gas and oil transmission in municipal industrial and mining enterprises.

Manufacturing process of castings

1. Making a clay mould. We put the model into the clays, compact the clays with machine, and then take out the model. The internal shape of the clay mould matches with those we want.

2. Iron melt. Steels and irons are put in the furnace to smelt until the molten iron reaches our requirements.

3. Casting, cooling and forming. We pour the molten iron into the clay mould until it cools down to solidify, and then break up the mould. In this way, what is left exactly is the shape we need, which is the casting.

4. Mechanical grinding. Finally, using mechanical processing equipment ( machine tool) to machine the castings into products required by customers.

ASTM A128 steel castings

ASTM A128 steel castings are one of the pipe fittings from Tianjin Wanlei. This specification covers Hadfield austenitic manganese steel castings and alloy modifications. These castings shall be suitably heat treated to achieve toughness and ductility. This heat treatment shall consist of uniformly heating the castings to a temperature applicable for grade of steel produced, at least 1000℃, and holding until the temperature is uniform throughout and quenching in an applicable medium, normally water.
