What is a flange?
Flanges are the most commonly used detachable connecting components on pipelines, containers, or equipment. Its core function is to serve as a connection interface, tightly pressing two flanges (or one flange with a flanged device) together through bolts, with a sealing gasket sandwiched in between, thereby achieving a sealed connection between system components and facilitating assembly and disassembly.
Main types of flanges (classified by connection method with pipelines)
1.welding flange
| Butt welding flange | Welding the flange neck to the pipeline. High strength, with the best pressure and temperature resistance, suitable for high pressure, high temperature, and highly toxic media. It is the preferred choice for industrial pipelines, especially in petrochemical and power industries. |
| Flat welding flange | The flange plate is welded to the pipeline fillet weld on the flat surface. Easy to install, but not as strong and precise as butt welded flanges, suitable for medium and low pressure systems. |
| Socket welding flange | The pipeline is inserted into the flange hole for fillet welding. Commonly used for high-pressure pipelines with small diameters . |
2.Threaded flange
The inner hole of the flange is machined with threads and screwed into pipes with external threads. No welding required, suitable for occasions where hot work is not allowed or low-pressure galvanized pipelines. The sealing performance is not as good as welded flanges.
3.Flexible flange: The flange is not directly welded to the pipeline, but is fitted onto the pipe flange or welding ring.
