Application procedure of the 3LPE coating
1 Initial preparation
All dirt, deleterious matter and contaminants, such as oil and grease shall be removed form the pipe prior to coating. All steel defects and irregularities shall be removed by grinding method. Grinding of steel defects shall not reduce the wall thickness below the specified minimum wall thickness of the pipe.
2 Abrasive blast cleaning
In order to increase the adhesion of the coating on the pipe surface and extend service life of the paint film, we will carry out abrasive blasting and rust cleaning on the pipe. All pipe shall be dry prior to entering the abrasive blast cleaning unit. Pipe temperature shall be at least 3℃above immediately prior to abrasive blast cleaning. The abrasives shall be maintained clean, dry and free from contaminants so as not to contaminate the substrate.
3 Epoxy application
Following surface preparation, the surface to be coated shall not be exposed for a length of time which could result in flash rust detrimental to the quality and adhesion of the coating. The thickness of the epoxy layer after curing, and the degree of cure shall be in accordance with relevant requirements.
4 Adhesive application
The elapsed time between epoxy application and adhesive application shall be controlled well. Additionally, the adhesive material shall be in compliance with the relevant requirements.
5 Polyethylene application
The application method shall be lateral or cross-head extrusion. The applied coating shall be cooled to a temperature which prevents handling damage during finishing and final inspection.
