In order to extend the service life of seamless steel pipe, anti-corrosion coating technique is a best choice to prevent the steel pipe from corrosion. Anti-corrosion coating can be used on the internal and external surfaces of the steel pipe according to different application needs. So what are the types of anti-corrosion coatings?
1. Fusion-Bonded Epoxy (FBE)
This anti-corrosion technique uses electrostatic spraying technology to uniformly coat epoxy powder on the external surface of the preheated steel pipe, and then heat melt to form a protection coating. FBE anti-corrosion coating have good corrosion resistance, which can effectively prevent the contact between the steel pipe and corrosive substance, extending service life of the steel pipe. Although FBE coating has good corrosion resistance, its water-proof performance is poor and easy to damage when undergoing external impact. Which may lead to a decrease in the performance of the coating in humid environments.
Epoxy coating also can be used in internal surface of the steel pipe to reduce the friction resistance between the fluid and the steel pipe, improving the flow of fluid.

2. Polyethylene and Polypropylene Coating (PE and PP)
PE anti-corrosion coating has excellent wear, impact resistance, and chemical stability, which can effectively resist the external corrosion. PE coating also has certain elasticity, which can help to enhance the impact and vibration resistance of the steel pipe, and not easy to damage. PE coating usually adapt three-layer compound structure (3PE coating) to provide comprehensive anti-corrosion protection.
PP anti-corrosion coating has excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance, which can maintain stable anti-corrosion effect in high-temperature environments. Compared with PE coating, PP coating shows stronger corrosion resistance in harsh environments, such as acid, alkali, and other extreme conditions.
3. Three-layer Polyethylene Coating (3PE)
3PE coating is a compound coating, which consists of three layers of structure: bottom layer epoxy powder (FBE), middle layer adhesive (AD), and top layer polyethylene (PE). FBE coating is in direct contact with the surface of the steel pipe and has good adhesion and corrosion resistance ; AD layer enhances the bonding strength between the FBE layer and the PE layer ; PE layer has excellent chemical corrosion resistance, providing long-term protection for pipelines. This anti-corrosion coating can provide comprehensive anti-corrosion protection for the steel pipe.
