Introduction
In pipeline system, olet is a critical pipe fitting that ensures efficient and reliable connection between the main pipeline and branch pipeline. As two mainstream products, sockolet and weldolet have different application scenarios and performance due to the differences in connection methods and structural designs. So what is the difference between sockolet and weldolet?
Different Connection Method
The connection of the sockolet is "insertion+fillet welding". Only the fillet weld need to be welded on the outside of the socket ends and branch pipe. However, the penetration depth of the fillet weld is limited, the stressed area of the weld is small, and it is easy to form welding dead corners at the bottom of the socket ends, which poses a risk of leakage.
While the connection of the weldolet is "groove docking+penetration welding". The stressed area of the butt weld is large, the welding defect rate is lower, and the overall structural integrity of the connection is stronger.
Different Pressure Bearing Capacity and Mechanical Properties
Due to the limited bearing capacity of the fillet weld and the stress concentration phenomenon in the socket structure, the sockolet is suitable for medium and low pressure pipeline systems (usually designed pressure ≤ 10MPa). Under high pressure conditions, fillet welds are prone to cracking due to the stress concentration.
The weld seam of the weldolet has good penetration, the weld's strength can be equal to that of the base material, the stress distribution is uniform, and there are no obvious stress concentration points. Therefore, it has stronger pressure bearing capacity and can be applied to high-pressure pipeline systems.
